NEW YORK, NY (May 2, 2014) – Publicis Kaplan Thaler‘s Chairman, Linda Kaplan Thaler is no stranger to giving back. Recently, Linda donated not only her time, but a small portion of her dignity, sleeping on the street as part of Covenant House’s Sleep Out program. In this Mother’s Edition of Sleep Out, Linda, fellow Publicis agent of change Lori Korchek and 100s of other moms supported the organization’s efforts to help young people leave the streets and begin new lives.Linda, Lori and the countless other moms involved raised a quarter of a million dollars for this wonderful cause.
“It was exhausting but so emotional meeting and talking to these kids,” Linda shared. “I had the worst night’s sleep of my life, but also the best gift ever, experiencing what thousands of our young people across the world unfortunately experience every night. With the generous support of Publicis employees, as well as the support of the friends of the rest of the 100 moms who were part of the Sleep Out, we raised a quarter of a million dollars for Covenant House!”
Covenant House produced a short video clip for the Sleep Out: Mother’s Edition here.
Lori Korchek, Creative Director at Publicis Kaplan Thaler shared, “The Sleep Out was a truly eye-opening experience and not just because we couldn’t really sleep on the cement and cardboard. I arrived not really knowing what to expect and it blew me away. The Covenant House staff could not have been more genuinely kind, helpful, and loving — with us as well as the kids. And meeting the teens themselves was heart-breaking, humbling and so very inspiring. With all they have been through — abuse, neglect, loneliness — they survive with all of their dreams in tact. Covenant House does an extraordinary and tireless job providing these kids with unconditional love, restoring their confidence and teaching them to be self-sufficient. It was a gift to be a part of it all.”

About Covenant House
Covenant House is not your ordinary charity organization. It is a leading advocate on behalf of homeless youth – those who can’t speak up for themselves at local, state, national, and international levels of government. We are a member of the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Board of Directors of UNICEF and have a prominent role in The Campaign for U.S. Ratification of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). Our work would be much easier if the issues our kids faced were able to be solved with a hot meal, warm shower, and clean bed. In reality, there is a wide range of deep-seated psychological, physical, and economic reasons for youth homelessness. To break the cycle of chronic adult homelessness and bridge the gap of support in the lives of our youth, Covenant House has developed three core services known as our Continuum of Care: Street Outreach, Crisis Care, and Rights of Passage. These core services are comprised of a wide array of in-house training programs, including healthcare, educational support, GED preparation, job readiness and skills training, drug abuse treatment and prevention, legal services, mental health services, the Mother/Child program, life skills training, and after-care. These programs are designed to provide our youth with a holistic approach to leaving the streets and achieving independence.
