Publicis North America Wins 2 Pencils at 2015 D&AD Awards

Doctors of the World "More Than A Costume" Work Honored in Two Categories



LONDON, UK (May 21, 2014) – Publicis North America received two Wood Pencils at this years D&AD award ceremony. The agency was honored in both the Digital Direct Response and Earned Integrated & Innovative Media Campaigns categories for the provocative Doctors of the World “More Than a Costume” campaign that ignited a worldwide advocacy movement.

An impressive record number of Pencils were awarded this year—847 in total, including only 5 Black and 44 Yellow Pencils. This is the first D&AD Pencil win for Publicis North America in recent history.

Collectively, the Publicis Worldwide agency network had an impressive showing at this year’s awards, garnering 1 Black, 2 Yellow, 9 Graphite and 14 Wood Pencils. received 1 Black, 2 Yellow, 9 Graphite and 14 Wood Pencils in total.

Copywriter on the campaign, Cuanan Cronwright said “a lot of credit must go to the client, who trusted us and was willing to take risks through the whole process.”

Art director Einav Jacubovich added, “We had an impossibly tight timeline, so we had to truly bring all departments together. We—creative, strategy, account, development, project management—met every morning to discuss, execute and put a campaign out within a week. It was amazing to see what’s possible when all departments collaborate seamlessly.”

“Once we had the idea set, we saw the timelines tightening and had new and unpredictable changes popping up hourly,” said strategist Sara Knee, “so we had to be nimble and on our toes everyday, all day to make sure it reached its highest potential.​​​”​

The “More Than a Costume” campaign is gaining momentum this award season, also winning at NY Festivals, the Webbys, the One Show, and the NY ADDY Awards. The D&AD award, however, is the most prestigious honor the campaign has received thus far, as these awards are widely regarded as the ultimate accolade for creative work in the advertising field.
